Nepal accepts ROC's note verbale for quake donation

Kathmandu, May 3 (CNA) Nepali Vice President Parmanand Jha accepted an official note verbale Sunday from the Republic of China for donating US$300,000 to aid relief efforts in the earthquake stricken country. The note verbale was presented by James Tien (???), the ROC Representative to India, during a visit to Jha's official residence in Kathmandu. Although Jha accepted the note verbale, he asked the ROC to submit the check to the Embassy of Nepal in New Delhi, India. Jha added that he will forward the note verbale to Prime Minister Sushil Koirala as soon as possible. Despite the lack of official diplomatic relations, Jha expressed hope that the meeting will mark the beginning of closer ties between Nepal and Taiwan. During his meeting with Jha, Tien extended condolences for the quake victims and said that many Taiwanese non-government organizations have joined the relief effort. Tien told Jha that Taiwan is expected to amass about 100 tons of supplies, while requesting direct cargo flights into Kathmandu Airport to get the supplies to those who need it. He also noted that previous Taiwanese relief efforts have aided earthquake victims in many nations, including Japan, New Zealand and Turkey. "Humanitarian aid outreach must not be confined by political differences," Tien emphasized. (By
