Cloud seeding to be used to increase rainfall amid drought

Taipei, May 3 (CNA) Amid Taiwan's worst drought in over a decade, the Water Resources Agency was preparing to use ground-based cloud-seeding techniques Sunday night to help spark precipitation in the water catchment areas of several reservoirs in the north of the country as a weather front was forecast to be approaching. The reservoirs included Shihmen Reservoir, Baoshan Reservoir No. 2, Yongheshan Reservoir and Minde Reservoir. As of 7 p.m., Shihmen Reservoir's water level was 218.62 meters, or only about 22.39 percent of capacity, while Baoshan Reservoir No. 2's water level was 132.84 meters, or about 35.64 percent of capacity, and Yongheshan Reservoir's was 68.57 meters, or 26.43 percent of capacity, according to WRA figures.
