Vietnamese spouse learns trade to support family

Nguyen Yubi, a Vietnamese who moved to Taiwan 13 years ago, has gone through her husband’s cardiac surgery and a stroke of her mother-in-law. Besides raising her two daughters alone, she has to support the family all by herself. Two years ago, with the help of the Eden Social Welfare Foundation, Nguyen started taking foot massage course and beginning to get regular pay checks.

Nguyen married her husband 13 years ago and moved to the rural area of Taitung, with all the neighbors living far from each other, and she didn’t have any friends there. Her alcoholic husband always went out drinking and disappeared for days, leaving her with her mean mother-in-law in the house. After her husband’s heart surgery, the burden of supporting the family came to rest with her, and she could only take some part-time jobs, making a limited amount of money. She even suffered a depression during the hard times and tried to commit suicide.

Through the help of the Eden Social Welfare Foundation, she started making new friends at a foot massage class and obtained a stable income. She is now not only financially independent, but also meeting many new friends.
