MEXICO CITY (AP) -- Mexican Soccer star Cuauhtemoc Blanco has only just left the pitch for politics. But he's already scored an own-goal in his campaign for mayor of Cuernavaca.
At a campaign event last week, Blanco urged his backers to "support the PRD," the initials of the Democratic Revolution Party.
Unfortunately, Blanco is running on the ticket of the small Social Democrat Party, or PSD.
The 42-year-old forward jumped into the campaign full time only after retiring on April 21. He'd played limited minutes off the bench for the first-division Puebla team.
His lack of political experience has raised doubts among some.
But Blanco shrugged off the flub in a video posted late Sunday on his Twitter account.
He acknowledges his error, but adds: "When I'm mayor, I won't make mistakes with you."
