Annual Taiwan-U.S. commercial forum to be held next week

Taipei, April 24 (CNA) The annual Taiwan-U.S. Commercial Forum will take place next week in the southern city of Kaohsiung, during which officials from the two countries will discuss bilateral commercial relations, said the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT) Friday, which is co-organizing the event. The seventh Taiwan-U.S. Commercial Forum, co-organized by AIT's Kaohsiung branch and National Pingtung University, is slated for May 1, said the AIT, which represents U.S. interests in Taiwan in the absence of bilateral diplomatic ties. The goal of the forum is to address developments in U.S.-Taiwan commercial ties and prospects for investment in Taiwan and the United States, the AIT said. Laurie Farris, executive director for Asia in the U.S. Department of Commerce's International Trade Administration, will deliver a speech on commercial developments related to the two countries, it added. The event will also feature two expert panels and will be attended by several AIT and Taiwanese officials, the AIT said, adding that representatives from international non-profit organizations and businesses will also participate. The forum is open to the public, but advance registration is required, it added. (By Elaine Hou)
