British fashion to be showcased at Creative Expo in Taipei

Taipei, April 24 (CNA) The British Trade and Cultural Office will put up a pavilion at the upcoming Creative Expo in Taipei to showcase U.K. fashion and also seek to boost bilateral business links in the industry. The U.K. pavilion will present works by Taiwanese designers who have established their own brands in the U.K. after studying there, as well as jewelry and shoes of two British brands, said the office, which represents U.K. interests in the absence of bilateral diplomatic ties. "The U.K. is at the cutting edge of international fashion and is renowned for its trendsetting, inventiveness and creativity," said the office. This is evidenced by U.K. designers exporting two-thirds of the clothing that they produce and the U.K. footwear industry exporting over 90 percent of its production around the world, it added. The U.K. is also a world-class incubator of fashion design talent. Several fashion schools in London, for example, have cultivated some of the world's most famous designers, including Stella McCartney and Jimmy Choo, it said. In recent years, more and more Taiwanese students have also chosen to study fashion in the U.K., the office said. The U.K. pavilion will showcase works created by three Taiwanese designers: Shao-yen Chen (???), Apu Jan (??) and Mei-hui Liu (???); and two British brands: Tatty Devine and Natacha Marro London, the office said. The Creative Expo will run from April 29-May 4 at Taipei Expo Park, Huashan 1914 Creative Park and Songshan Cultural and Creative Park, which will bring together designers from Taiwan, Hong Kong, Japan, Thailand, China, Singapore and Malaysia, according to the organizers.
