BUENOS AIRES, Argentina (AP) -- The lawyer for Argentina's most famous spy master says his client has fled the country because of threats on his life and that the government is trying to sully his reputation following the mysterious death of prosecutor Alberto Nisman.
Santiago Blanco Bermudez told The Associated Press during an interview Wednesday evening that Antonio Stiuso would not respond to government summons to testify.
In his words, "We believe (Stiuso) will continue to be a government target."
Stiuso oversaw a vast wire-tapping operation and had assisted Nisman in his investigation of the 1994 bombing of a Jewish community center. Nisman was found dead Jan. 18, days after accusing President Cristina Fernandez of reaching a secret deal with Iran to cover up its alleged role in the attack.
