Executive Yuan announces establishment of New Immigrant Affairs Agency

With the number of new immigrants reaching 500,000 in 2015, Premier Mao Chi-kuo, announced today the establishment of a New Immigrant Affairs Agency in charge of new immigrant related issues.
The number of new immigrants has now reached 500,000, and their offspring to 200,000, so the most crucial issue for the government now is to ensure the rights and protection of the new immigrants. Mao indicated that in order to consolidate the new immigration programs launched by various government offices, a new agency is needed to do the job. The Ministry of the Interior will work out a plan for the establishment of the new agency.
Mao indicated that the emphasis should be put on the mother language of the second-generation immigrants, especially during the critical period of language acquisition.
