KAMPALA, Uganda (AP) -- An athletics coach in Uganda has been arrested after being accused of raping the teenage girls he was coaching.
Police spokesman Fred Enanga says Peter Wemali was arrested Wednesday following accusations that he raped three young runners, who are all under 18.
Commonwealth Games 10,000-meter champion Moses Kipsiro accused Wemali of sexually harassing female athletes last year. Wemali was cleared following an investigation. Last month, Kipsiro claimed Wemali sent him a death threat.
Enanga says Wemali is being transferred to the eastern town of Kapchorwa, where the crimes supposedly took place. He was suspended from working pending the investigation.
Police say they are still investigating Kipsiro's claim that Wemali sent him a death threat on his cellphone, causing Kipsiro to pull out of the cross-country world championships.
