VIENNA (AP) -- Three-time Olympic medalist Christoph Bieler of Austria is ending his Nordic combined career after competing on the World Cup for two decades.
The 37-year-old Bieler says "I always knew that as soon as I would start thinking about retiring, the time had come to quit."
Bieler was part of the Austrian team that won Olympic gold in Turin in 2006, and bronze in Salt Lake City in 2002 and again in Sochi last year. The team also won the world title in Val di Fiemme in 2003, followed by bronze in Oberstdorf two years later.
Bieler, who won six individual World Cup events, is the second Austrian Nordic combined veteran to retire this season after Mario Stecher last February.
