Taitung County, a hidden gem that lies on the East coast of Taiwan, is famous for its phenomenal nature wonders and aboriginal cultures. From east to west, the county locates between the sea and the mountains and is full of scenic coastlines, valleys and plains. Additionally, the mysterious volcanic Green Island, untouched by humans, contains untainted environment, priceless natural sceneries, and significant to Taiwan’s history. Taitung County is easy to navigate. You can travel via train to admire the beautiful coastline and the magnificent mountains.

Along the coast, you can visit Taitung Sea Park, a landmark that combines nature and cultural art. It is also a perfect place to greet the first light of the day because of its location. Another notable place to visit along the coast is Jinzun, a surfer’s haven. Every year, the Taitung county government hosted the Taiwan Open of Surfing in November, a top rating event recognized by the Asian Surfing Championships (ASC).

Come visit the Chishang Township, the most important agriculture district in Taitung County. The borderless rice paddies make everyone feel like a bird, soaring above the fields and mountains. If you come during autumn, you can even see an endless golden field.

On the southern Taitung Plain, you can see the fields where Amis Aboriginal tribe used to farm here and the Dutch once mined for gold here. It was the site of a battle between the Dutch and the aboriginal tribes. Additionally, the plain holds one of the most important annual cultural events, the Blasting Handan Parade, which takes place during the Lantern Festival.

The nature lovers cannot miss out on the Jean-Zen Mountain, home of the daylilies. Both beautiful and edible, the day lily flower blooms and withers in one day. Additionally, look out for Formosa Sika Dear, a subspecies of sika deer endemic to Taiwan.

Besides the wondrous nature, Taitung County is the home to many festivals and aboriginals’ arts and music. Tiehua village, a creative haven for Taitung's emerging artists and musicians, creates a vibrant and intriguing to-go spot for tourists. Last but not the least, the world renowned Taiwan International Hot Air Balloon Fiesta, an exhilarating festival which promises visitors an unforgettable experience with glamorous Night Glow shows, enchanting music, indigenous art and culture, apart from a grand display of hot air balloons.
