Accomplice in killing of Pam Smart's husband granted parole

CONCORD, New Hampshire (AP) -- A second man who helped kill Pamela Smart's husband in a 1990 case that inspired sensational media coverage has been granted parole.

Patrick Randall held a knife to Gregory Smart's throat in May 1990 as Billy Flynn, who was Pamela Smart's teenage lover, shot him in the head.

Flynn was paroled last month; Smart is serving life without parole after being convicted of plotting the murder.

Smart was a media coordinator at the high school both teens attended. Randall and Flynn pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and were sentenced to 28 years to life.

Randall was 16 when Gregory Smart was killed. Now 41, he's been living at a halfway house and faced the parole board Thursday.

The earliest Randall would be released is after June 4.
