KMT to name its presidential candidate in mid-June

Taipei, April 8 (CNA) The ruling Kuomintang (KMT) has set in motion a process to select its 2016 presidential candidate and will announce the name by mid-June, KMT spokesman Yang Wei-chung (???) said Wednesday. Earlier in the day, the party's Central Standing Committee approved a timetable and a set of guidelines for the presidential candidate nomination process, Yang said. According to the guidelines, nomination and endorsement forms will be available April 20-May 15, while applications for nominee registration can be filed May 17 and 18, Yang said. He said the review and approval of applications will be conducted May 19-24, followed by an opinion poll June 5-13. The opinion poll results, which will have a yet undecided weighting in the selection process, will be released June 14, the day of the KMT's presidential primary elections, Yang said. The names of the two candidates selected to run on the KMT ticket for president and vice president will be announced publicly on June 14, and will be submitted to the party's Central Standing Committee for confirmation on June 17 and to the party's National Congress for approval by mid-July, Yang said.
