King Pu-tsung denies he is on secret mission in Japan

Taipei, April 8 (CNA) Fomer National Security Council (NSC) Secretary-General King Pu-tsung (???) said Wednesday that a tabloid report attributing ulterior motives to his current visit to Japan is purely speculative and false. In a four-point statement, King said he and family are in Japan on a spring break holiday and will all return home over the course of the week. He said his children will leave first to return to school and he and his father-in-law will remain for a few days to visit friends but will be back in Taiwan later in the week on a direct flight from Japan. Next Magazine's (???) report that he is in Japan to carry out a secret mission for President Ma Ying-jeou is regrettable, untrue and nothing but sheer speculation, said King, who is known to be a close confidant of the president. The tabloid on Wednesday linked King's visit to an ongoing investigation into allegations that President Ma Ying-jeou had accepted a political donation of NT$200 million from Ting Hsin International Group (??????) of Taiwan in 2012 and said King was on a secret mission for the president. In his statement, King said that every time he goes abroad, he files the required application for permission to travel and books a return ticket. His travel records are available from the airlines, he said. One of King's friends, who asked not to be named, said it was ridiculous that King's family vacation would be painted by the tabloid as a secret mission for President Ma. "Does not King have the right to freedom of movement and the right to travel abroad with his family?" his friend asked. King resigned from the NSC in February for health reasons and has since been spending most of his time with his family and seeking heath care, according to his friend. Last month, a guest on a TV political talk show claimed that King was about to fly to the United States with seven other unknowned figures on a secret mission for Ma, but in fact King was in Taipei at the time, as proven by media photographs showing him with friends at a restaurant in city, his friend said. King's plan to travel with his family to Japan during the spring break this month was reported since March on an online news site. (By Kelven Huang and Evelyn Kao)
