Luis Ko: The powerful should make people feel right


In a commentary advising the government policy-makers and the rich, Luis Ko calls for adaptation of “initiation, self-restraint, traceability and self-management” as the guidelines to meet the expectations of the “home boys and girls, web surfers, netizens, and the underprivileged.”

His statement is as follows:

1. When one is born, receiving education and entering society, he or she must have “a good heart and compassion, vision, and ambition.” This is what is called “initiation.”
2. When life is “on its smooth sailing and success is in sight,” becoming what is called “a member of life’s successful team,” the “initiation” could be easily masked by “life’s temporary wealth, power, or reputation” to forget the importance of “self-restraint,” resulting to the committing of life’s gravest mistake by even the one who has “a good heart and compassion, vision, and ambition.”
3. In recent years, the world is plagued by the poor-rich gap, class struggle, religious conflicts, race riots, government corruption, medicare problems, religion scandals, government official scandals, unfairness in the business sector, and the loose control of the military, disregarding the ranting-calls from the “home boys and girls, web surfers, netizens, and the underprivileged.” This situation renders the using of the Internet to echo the calls of the underprivileged to futility. It also could amass the negative elements to produce “humanity’s biggest tragedy.”
4. “Initiation and self-restraint” are equal to “traceability and self-management.” They are the unique guidelines for the food industry to manage “food safety and hygiene.” The pharmaceutical industry also sees its importance. By observing these rules to the fullest, it is the “right way to run the business.”
5. Believing in “not forgetting the initiative and exercising self-control” is what the present power-holders and the rich to take as the working guidelines. This will win the resonance of the “home boys and girls, web surfers, netizens, and the underprivileged.”
