Second-half blitz lifts Whitecaps over Galaxy 2-0 in MLS

VANCOUVER, British Columbia (AP) -- Kekuta Manneh and Octavio Rivero scored second-half goals to lift Vancouver over the Los Angeles Galaxy 2-0 Saturday night, keeping the Whitecaps perfect in Major League Soccer.

Manneh scored in the 56th minute and forward Rivero, in the 66th before a sellout crowd at B.C. Place Stadium, as Vancouver won its fourth consecutive game for the first time since joining the MLS in 2011.

It was just the second time the Whitecaps had beaten the Galaxy, which slumped to its second-consecutive defeat.

Whitecaps' captain Pedro Morales created the first goal when his cleverly chipped pass found the speedy Manneh, who beat LA goalkeeper Jaime Penedo for his first of the season.

Rivero made it 2-0 just 10 minutes later. Midfielder Nicolas Mezquida fired a shot from a sharp angle that a diving Penedo stopped. Rivero slotted home the rebound for his fourth goal of the season.

Earlier, the Whitecaps dominated play during a scoreless first half.

Morales got the crowd of 21,000 on its feet in the 11th minute. He took a feed from Mezquida then spun around a defender before getting off a shot that Penedo stopped.

Manneh also had a good sight on goal in the 23rd minute, when his speed broke through the LA defense, but his shot cannoned off the crossbar.

Elsewhere, Jeff Larentowicz scored the winner from a 68th minute free kick to lift the Chicago Fire to a 3-2 win at home over 10-man Toronto FC.

Toronto FC's Warren Creavalle was sent off in the 67th minute after receiving a second yellow card for a rough challenge on David Accam. Larentowicz curled the ensuing free kick around the wall and inside the far post to give Chicago its second win of the season.

Joevin Jones gave Chicago an early 1-0 lead in the 14th minute. Jones stole the ball from the Toronto defense, fed Shaun Maloney, who returned the pass for Jones to place his shot into the far corner. Toronto evened the match six minutes later when Sebastian Giovinco's shot rolled through the legs of a defender and trickled past goalkeeper Jon Busch.

Benoit Cheyrou put Toronto ahead 2-1 in the 54th minute. Giovinco ran down a long ball, chipped a back pass to the penalty spot and Cheyrou finished it. Chicago's Shaun Malone squared the game two minutes later with a shot through traffic.

Obafemi Martins scored his third goal of the season lifting the Seattle Sounders to a 1-0 win over the Houston Dynamo despite playing the final 35 minutes with just 10 men.

Martins' goal came in the 39th minute as Seattle quickly countered off a Houston turnover. Martins took a pass from Clint Dempsey, did a 360-degree spin around Houston defender Jermaine Taylor and put enough power on the shot that Deric's deflection couldn't keep it out of the net.

Seattle went down a man in the 56th minute when Gonzalo Pineda was given a red card after catching Ricardo Clark in the stomach with his left foot. Even with the man advantage, Houston could not get any good chances against Seattle goalkeeper Stefan Frei.

Also Saturday, Juan Agudelo and Lee Nguyen scored in the New England Revolution's 2-0 win over the Colorado Rapids and the Portland Timbers beat FC Dallas 3-1.
