BUENOS AIRES, Argentina (AP) -- Authorities say a police officer has been seriously injured in clashes with football fans in Argentina.
The fighting led to Monday's match between Arsenal and Aldosivi being suspended before halftime. Although most of the trouble occurred outside the stadium, the referee said the match couldn't continue because of a lack of safety guarantees.
Officials said the fighting was among supporters of Arsenal, the home team in the city of Sarandi. Because of soccer violence, visiting fans are not allowed in Argentine league matches.
An official with the local agency in charge of fan-violence prevention said the head of an Arsenal group was detained. Roberto Laino also told ESPN Radio 107.9 that the injured police officer was in a serious condition, but no other details were immediately available.
