MEXICO CITY (AP) -- The death toll from the explosion of a crashed gasoline tanker truck in southern Mexico has risen to nine.
The Tabasco state prosecutor's office posted on its official Facebook page Sunday that five more people had died. Among the dead are a girl and two boys.
The Civil Defense agency had said in a statement that the 15,800-gallon (60, 000-liter) tanker crashed on the road between Villahermosa and Coatzacoalcos in southeastern Mexico on Thursday. Area residents ignored authorities' warnings to stay away and instead tried to take gas from the damaged tanker and were caught when it exploded.
More than 20 others were injured.
