Four caf廥 in Taipei touted by Malaysian newspaper

Taipei, March 29 (CNA) Four specialty caf廥, all within walking distance of Taipei Metro stations, were singled out and featured in The Malay Mail Online on Sunday. Starting from Metro Beimen station and walking toward Dadaocheng, a historic trading port in the 19th century, you can find the artisanal Luguo caf?in ArtYard, a cultural collective which is located in the renovated historic A. S. Watson & Co. building, named after the first Watson's pharmacy in Taiwan, said the report. Customers may sip their carefully brewed coffee in the caf? which is located on the second floor, away from the bustle of the streets below. The origin and flavors of the beans are explained with precision and pleasure. Sitting a few minutes walk from Metro Da'an Park station is the main caf?of Zhanlu Coffee, which owns four outlets across the city. Kenny Mah, author of The Malay Mail report, said their signature cr鋗e caramel was smooth and not too sweet. A barista at the caf? would take the time to describe the profiles of available beans and make recommendations according to customers' individual palate, said Mah. Less than half hour walk from Zhanlu is Rufous Coffee, typically packed with students since it's between National Taiwan University campus and the Metro's Technology Building station. The caf?s name comes from the color "rufous" which is reddish-brown or rust-like. The owner Xiao Yang, a former chef of Italian cuisine, is in charge of every step of the process from sourcing the beans to roasting to brewing, Mah wrote. Taking another 20-minute walk, you can find PEG Coffee, not far from Liuzhangli station. Profusion of Japanese comic related paraphernalia makes this caf?look unlike a specialty coffee bar at first glance. There are the usual beans from Africa and South America in the caf? but look out for native coffee from mountainous Alishan in southern Taiwan. (By Kuo Chung-han)
