Taiwan planning delegation for Lee Kuan Yew's funeral

Taipei, March 24 (CNA) Taiwan's government is putting together a delegation to attend the state funeral of Lee Kuan Yew (???), the founding father of Singapore, given his close ties with Taiwan, Premier Mao Chi-kuo (???) said Tuesday. Lee visited Taiwan 25 times and developed relationships with many political leaders, especially with late President Chiang Ching-kuo (???). When asked by Kuomintang Legislator Yen Kuan-heng (???) if Taiwan will reciprocate Lee's move in leading all Cabinet members to attend Chiang Ching-kuo's funeral in 1988, the premier said the government is still planning what it will do. Though Taiwan does not have diplomatic relations with Singapore, President Ma Ying-jeou (???) left for the city state just before noon on Tuesday to pay his last respects to Lee. The visit was not revealed ahead of time and not officially confirmed even after Ma's China Airlines charter took off. Because of diplomatic obstacles, Ma will not attend Lee's funeral on March 29, but Taiwan is expected to send a delegation in his place. (By Tseng Ying-yu and Lilian Wu)
