Taiwanese developers crowned champions in Microsoft app contest

Taipei, March 23 (CNA) Microsoft Taiwan on Monday announced the winners of the company's Community Champion app development competition, which saw two Taiwanese teams rise above 605 teams of 805 software developers from across Taiwan, Japan, and Malaysia. The competition is designed to promote Azure, Microsoft's cloud computing platform and infrastructure. App submissions by competing developers were judged by their design, innovativeness, and commercial viability. A Taiwanese team was crowned champion in the adults category for its "Care Best" app dedicated to caring for seniors suffering from chronic conditions.
Another Taiwanese team finished first in the students' category with its "Green Farm" app, a farming game that urges users to refrain from the excessive use of mobile devices. Care Best developer Tsai Wen-long (???) said that as the impact of an aging population takes effect across Taiwan, it will be important to have new solutions that unify a patient's medical information, in particular for patients suffering from chronic illnesses such as heart disease and diabetes. Tsai added that the app is capable of improving the effectiveness of Taiwan's limited medical resources by tracking vital information such as drug prescriptions and hospital visits. Microsoft Taiwan noted that the winners of the competition this year will receive prize money of up to US$6,000, with the top-ten finishing teams each receiving an Xbox One video game console.
