TOCFL: Gets 20 percent off in 3 tests

The Test of Chinese as a Foreign Language (TOCFL) organized by “Steering Committee for the Test Of Proficiency-Huayu (SC-TOP)” is a standardized language proficiency test developed for non-native speakers of Chinese. It is the result of a joint project of the Mandarin Training Center. The first TOCFL test in 2015 will be held on May 2-3, and the test opens to register online from now on to March 27.

The new version of the TOCFL has three proficiency bands: Band A, Band B, and Band C. Each of the bands has two levels and totally comes in six levels from Levels 1 to 6. Participants can get the official certificates launched by Ministry of Education while passing the different level tests. The official certificate is very helpful for applying Taiwanese schools, scholarships, and finding jobs. Besides, it stands for an achievement of Chinese learning as well.

TOCFL is a computer-based proficiency test system, including “Listening and Reading,” “Speaking,” and “Writing.” The purpose of “Listening and Reading” is to evaluate test takers’ ability to recognize the daily language; “Speaking” is to evaluate test takers’ ability to effectively express themselves by speaking in assorted situations, and test materials are designed based on authentic situations which are close to everyday life; “Writing” is to evaluate test takers’ ability to effectively express themselves in writing for various situations, and the test is conducted on the computer.

To encourage the prospective test takers, those who sign up the above tests ,“Listening and Reading,” “Speaking,” and “Writing,” will get 20 percent off discount on registration fee. Besides, students in National Taiwan Normal University, National Taipei University of Education, National Chengchi University, Tamkang University, Fu Jen Catholic University, National Taichung University of Education, Providence University, Feng Chia University, Tunghai University, National Chiayi University, Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology, National Cheng Kung University, Wenzao Ursuline University of Language, and National Sun Yat-sen University can register for the exam at the school's Chinese language centers.
