Study: Want more and better sex? Let’s get more sleep

Want more high-quality and satisfiable sex? You don't have to do all the sex positions from 'Fifty Shades of Grey.' There is a much easier way to achieve that. Get more sleep.

A new study, published in The Journal of Sexual Medicine, indicates that a research team from the University of Mibchigan looked at the impact a good night's sleep, or lack of, can have on sexual activity in women. They found that each additional hour of sleep increases the likelihood of sex by 14 percent the next night.

The study asked 171 female college students aged around 20 to complete a daily, web-based questionnaire on their sexual mood, sexual function, and sleeping patterns, over a period of 14 days. The authors said they controlled other factors that can influence sexual desire, such as wellbeing, menstruation and use of oral contraceptives.

"Women with chronically insufficient sleep may be at greater risk for genital arousal difficulties, though one night of sleep loss appears to lead to short-term improvement in genital arousal the following day," the paper concluded.

According to the interview from CBS, “If there’s anything women or their partners can do to help promote good sleep for one another, whether it’s helping out around the house to reduce workload, planning romantic getaways, or just practicing good sleep hygiene, it could help protect against having problems in the bedroom,” the study’s author David Kalmbach said.
