6,000 applicants vie for 300 jobs at China Airlines

Taipei, March 21 (CNA) More than 6,000 job seekers on Saturday applied for 300 openings at China Airlines (CAL), the largest airline in Taiwan, according to the carrier. The applicants, who submitted their resumes between Feb. 27-March 13, received the tests in Taoyuan near the country's main gateway. Those who successfully navigate the first round evaluation, which included both paper tests and interviews, go on to the second round on March 28 and 29, CAL said. More interviews and personality tests will be undertaken, the company said, adding that the 300 applicants selected will receive nine weeks of training before working their first flight. The flight attendants will be offered a starting monthly salary of NT$50,000 (US$1,587), including allowances, CAL said. Meanwhile, the airline is recruiting another 100 foreign flight attendants to improve service quality as it continues to expand its global flight network. With the addition of 400 new recruits this year, CAL's flight attendant staff is expected to total 3,500 by mid-2015. (By Lee Hsin-Yin)
