China Airlines sees promising aviation market in 2015

Taipei, March 20 (CNA) China Airlines (CAL), Taiwan's largest carrier, said Friday it is expecting a healthy aviation industry this year thanks to low fuel prices and an improving global economy. Fuel prices are likely to remain flat in the next two years, which would help keep down the airline's operating costs, said CAL Chairman Sun Hung-hsiang (???). He said cargo shipments have been growing fast since the last quarter of 2014, amid a gradual recovery of economies worldwide, particularly the United States. The outlook for CLA's cargo and passenger business is good, Sun said, adding that the carrier's passenger volume may increase another 10 percent in 2015, following a 23.6 percent growth rate last year. "The new Boeing 777 fleet we introduced last year has also played an important role in budget planning," he said. The features of the new aircraft, including their fuel efficiency, have cut CAL's operating costs by at least 20 percent, according to Sun. The airline will take delivery of another five Boeing 777s this year, he said. Boosted by a bullish market, CAL will pay all of its employees a bonus of one month's salary in March, Sun said.
