Taiwanese movie wins best picture award at Osaka festival

Tokyo, March 15 (CNA) Taiwanese director Yee Chih-yen's 2014 movie "Meeting Dr. Sun" won both the Best Picture and the Audience Awards at the Osaka Asian Film Festival in Japan Sunday. Hong Kong director Pang Ho-cheung (???), who served as the jury president of the 10th Osaka Asian Film Festival, said that the jury had chosen "Meeting Dr. Sun" for the Best Picture because of the film's terse yet expressive script that vividly portrays the unique aspects of Taiwan's society, politics and the daily lives of its people Pang also commended the stellar performance by the cast of young actors starring the film. Yee said he was surprised that his movie, which won the Best Original Screenplay Award at the Taipei Golden Horse Film Festival last year, had earned the love of judges in Osaka. "The honor means I and my team will have to keep working hard and keep cheering for Taiwan's movie industry," he said, repeating the remarks that he made when he received the award in Taipei. Matthew Wei, lead actor in "Meeting Dr. Sun," said he was delighted by the accolade. He thanked the film festival organizers' warm welcome extended to them and promised he will continue working hard.
