I-Mei Foods refutes online rumors

Taiwan’s Ministry of Health and Welfare (MOHW) issued a statement Monday refuting a false rumor shared on the Internet about an official list of tainted food products. The MOHW urged the public not to cite and spread the rumor to avoid inadvertently breaking the law.

The department found it is a recycled rumor which appeared in the middle of 2014 and was denied by the MOHW in late August 2014, stating the rumor was groundless. A number of food manufacturers have become victims of the rumor, including I-Mei Foods Co., Maxwell House, Lipton, and Nestle.

I-Mei Foods stated Tuesday that it has filed a police report targeting the recent Internet hoax in order to protect the company's reputation and avoid consumer misunderstandings.
