Apple top smartphone seller in Taiwan for 4th straight month

Taipei, March 10 (CNA) Apple Inc. ranked as the top smartphone seller in Taiwan in terms of both sales volume and value for the fourth consecutive month in January, thanks to strong demand for its big-screen iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, according to statistics released Tuesday by industry sources. A total of 798,000 smartphones were sold in Taiwan in January, up 1 percent from a month earlier, and Apple took a 24.6 percent share of the total, the figures showed. Taiwanese phone maker HTC Corp. (???) was in second place with an 18.1 percent share by sales volume, while Samsung Electronics Co. ranked third with a 13.3 percent share. Asustek Computer Inc. (??) of Taiwan was fourth with a 12.6 percent share and Sony Mobile fifth with an 8.4 percent share. In terms of sales value, Apple dominated the market with a 53.4 percent share, followed by Samsung with 12.7 percent, HTC with 11.7 percent, Sony Mobile with 7.6 percent and Asustek with 5.9 percent, according to the data. The top 10 bestselling smartphones in January were the iPhone 6 Plus (64GB), iPhone 6 (64GB), iPhone 6 (16GB), Samsung Galaxy Note 4, Sony Xperia Z3, HTC Desire 820 dual sim, HTC Desire 816, HTC One M8, iPhone 6 Plus (16GB) and Asustek ZenFone 5 (16GB), in that order.
