ECCT to release 2015 report on low carbon initiative

Taipei, March 4 (CNA) The European Chamber of Commerce Taiwan (ECCT, ????) will release its annual publication on the low carbon initiative Thursday, aimed at encouraging local businesses and policy-makers to lower their carbon emissions. This year's ECCT low carbon initiative publication focuses on energy efficiency in industries and highlights existing technology, as well as providing insights on EU regulations and best practices in Europe and Taiwan in achieving energy conversation measures, the chamber said on its website. A side effect of introducing environmental factors and a conscious approach to understanding energy demands in manufacturing is a steep reduction in energy costs, as well as the possibility of being able to use fewer resources in manufacturing, the ECCT noted. The publication will also introduce the concept of life cycle costs, which the ECCT said is the most effective way for companies to pinpoint their real costs over the lifespans of their machines and product cycles. Economics Minister John Deng (???) will attend an ECCT luncheon Thursday, where he will receive the publication on behalf of the government, the chamber said. The ECCT spearheaded its low carbon initiative in 2012 to showcase the best European low carbon solutions and practices through three strong platforms: advocacy, best practices, and corporate social responsibility and education. The initiative is aimed at raising awareness of sustainable development and promoting the adoption of low carbon solutions in order to help Taiwan reduce its carbon emissions. The ECCT represents more than 800 members from over 400 companies and organizations, promoting European business interests in Taiwan. (By Jeffrey Wu)
