Prince William of Britain arrives in China for 4 days visits

Britain's Prince William is making the first official visit to mainland China by a senior British royal in close to three decades, testing his diplomatic mettle as the second in line to the throne. Meanwhile, it is the highest-profile visit to China by a member of the Royal Family since 1986, when the Queen and Prince Philip travelled to the country.

William arrived in Beijing late Sunday after a four-day stay in Japan. He travels later Monday to Shanghai and rounds off his visit to China on Wednesday in the southwest near the border with Myanmar.

William's engagements in Shanghai include opening an exhibition showcasing British creativity and innovation and meeting with Chinese business leaders; watching students at a secondary school train with Premier League-trained coaches; and meeting Chinese film industry figures. His final stop in China is Xishuangbanna in Yunnan where he will visit an elephant sanctuary and a nature reserve.

But Prince William won't be visiting Hong Kong this time, because China has said it would deny a group of British members of Parliament entry into Hong Kong after the lawmakers signaled they were going to look into the handling of the pro-democracy protests there.
