Compal sees flat notebook shipment growth for 2015

Taipei, Feb. 26 (CNA) Taiwan's Compal Electronics Inc. (??), the world's second-largest contract maker of laptops, said Thursday that its notebook PC shipments will remain flat this year but will still outperform the overall market. The company shipped 43 million notebooks in 2014, an increase of 10 percent year-on-year and beating its original target of 40 million units, Compal Chief Financial Officer Gary Lu (???) told a media briefing. He forecast that Compal's notebook shipments in 2015 will be equivalent to those shipped last year, outpacing a 5 percent decline in the overall market this year as estimated by research firm IDC. Given the stagnant PC industry, Compal will continue to diversify its business to non-notebook products such as smartphones, tablets, televisions, servers and automobile electronics, which are expected to make up 30 percent of the company's total revenue in 2015 compared with 27 percent last year, Lu said.
