TSMC, Asustek ranked among Fortune's 2015 most admired companies

Taipei, Feb. 25 (CNA) Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC, ???) and Asustek Computer Inc. (??) were the only two Taiwanese companies to be ranked among Fortune Magazine's most admired companies in 2015. The ranking released on Tuesday showed that TSMC, the world's largest contract chip maker, fell one spot to fourth place in the Semiconductors category in this year's survey. Asustek, which did not make the list in 2014, was ranked sixth this year in the Computers category. Apple held the top spot in the overall ranking of Fortune's most admired companies for the eighth year in a row. The iPhone maker in February became the first company to attain a market value of more than US$700 billion. U.S. search engine Google ranked second in the 2015 list, followed by Berkshire Hathaway, Amazon.com, Starbucks, Walt Disney, Southwest Airlines, American Express, General Electric and Coca-Cola. Fortune rates companies on nine key attributes related to corporate reputation: innovation, people management, use of corporate assets, social responsibility, quality of management, financial soundness, long-term investment value, quality of products/services and global competiveness. Drawing from a base of some 1,400 companies, Fortune evaluated a total of 668 companies covering 55 industry sectors from 29 countries. The magazine surveys board directors, executives and financial analysts to determine the rankings. A company's score must rank in the top half of its industry survey to be listed. (By Jeffrey Wu)
