Rain forecast for northern, eastern Taiwan in coming week

Taipei, Feb. 23 (CNA) Rain is likely in Taiwan during the coming week due to increasing seasonal winds, with northern and eastern Taiwan expected to be the most affected, the Central Weather Bureau said Monday. Most areas of Taiwan will experience rainfall on the first working day of the lunar year Tuesday, while daytime lows are expected to range between 16-20 degrees Celsius islandwide. The rainy weather could ease up slightly on Wednesday, except for areas in the eastern part of the country and in mountainous parts of north and central Taiwan, according to forecasters. There could be showers again in northern Taiwan Feb. 26-27, with highs dropping some 2 degrees to around 23 degrees in the region, with partly cloudy skies forecast for central and southern Taiwan. While milder weather is forecast for Feb. 28 across the country, another cold front could approach March 1, bringing the mercury down in northern and eastern Taiwan. Lows could drop by about 3 degrees to 15 degrees in those areas, the bureau said. (By Lee Hsin-Yin)
