Thailand targetting repeat visitors from Taiwan

Taipei, Feb. 23 (CNA) Thailand wants Taiwanese travelers who have visited before to come back for more in-depth trips by promoting less-known destinations within the country. Thailand saw 24.7 million international travelers last year, with nearly 400,000 from Taiwan, according to the Tourism Authority of Thailand. Srisuda Wanapinyosak, executive director of East Asia at the authority, said that makes Taiwan a market that has shown continuous growth. Anita Huang (??), the marketing manager at the tourism authority's Taipei office, said that travel to less popular destinations like Lampang in northern Thailand can appeal to Taiwanese who have already visited the major tourist draws and are interested in learning more about Thai wellness culture. "Re-visitors, especially office ladies, are enjoying our cuisine lessons, traditional massages and even meditation," she said. In-depth tour options, fueled by more services offered by local budget airlines since last year, are well-suited to backpackers and can help sustain travel momentum from the Taiwanese market, she said. Wanapinyosak said that her bureau is promoting itineraries focused on the Thai lifestyle under the government's declaration of 2015 as the "Discover Thainess" year, which aims to accelerate economic development in a more sustainable way.
