Norway wins women's team sprint at Nordic worlds

FALUN, Sweden (AP) -- Norway won the women's cross-country team sprint in dominating fashion on Sunday at the Nordic skiing world championship.

Ingvild Flugstad Oestberg gave Norway a big lead on the penultimate leg and Maiken Caspersen Falla easily maintained the gap to give the Scandinavian powerhouse its fourth cross-country gold of the championships.

Sweden took silver after Stina Nilsson beat Poland's Sylwia Jaskowiec in a tight sprint for second place.

Defending champion United States lost ground on the third of six legs and finished eighth in the 10-team final, 34 seconds back.

Norway had not won the women's team sprint at the worlds since 2005 but was a massive favorite even with six-time Olympic champion Marit Bjoergen skipping the race. Falla won the individual sprint at the Sochi Olympics, when Oestberg took silver.
