Taiwan wins award at L.A. travel show

Los Angeles, Feb. 21 (CNA) Taiwan's pavilion at the Los Angeles Travel and Adventure Show has won yet another "Best of Show" award thanks to its diverse offerings including food, games and performances. John Golicz, CEO of event organizer Unicomm LLC, presented the award to Steve C.C. Hsia (???), director-general of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Los Angeles, and Trust Lin (???), director of Taiwan Tourism Bureau in Los Angeles, on Saturday. This year's pavilion features Taiwan's pearl milk tea among other local specialties, a common night market game in which participants "fish" for empty glass bottles with a string, and dances with the religious icon Prince Nezha (??) set to techno music. The Tourism Bureau has used the draws to promote its limited-time package to American and Canadian citizens traveling in pairs, who for just US$100 each can enjoy airport pickup, two consecutive nights of accommodation at 5-Star hotels in downtown Taipei, a book of vouchers and other features. Taiwan has won several best of show awards at the annual fair in the past few years. Last year, over 3,000 travel experts manned 450 booths at the fair, which attracted 33,000 visitors. The Los Angeles Travel and Adventure Show is being held Saturday and Sunday at the Long Beach Convention Center. (By Oscar Wu and Christie Chen)
