The four-man German team, which includes individual world champion Johannes Rydzek and World Cup leader Eric Frenzel, earned a total of 448.3 points in the ski jump on the normal hill, giving it a four-second head start on second-place Japan in the 4x5-kilometer cross-country relay set for later Sunday.
France will start 14 seconds back in third place, while Austria and Norway both have 28 seconds to make up.
The United States was eighth and will start the relay 1 minute, 39 seconds behind Germany.
