Asustek outperforms rivals in Japan PC market

Taipei, Feb. 13 (CNA) Taiwan's Asustek Computer Inc. (??) outperformed its competitors in the Japanese market last year, recording the highest personal computer shipment growth, according to research firm IDC Japan. Asustek's PC shipments to Japan grew last year by an annual 35.8 percent to 420,000 units, the highest rate among the top 10 vendors in that market, according to IDC Japan statistics released Thursday. The increased shipments also boosted Asustek's market share from 2.0 percent in 2013 to 2.7 percent in 2014, pushing the company from ninth to seventh place in the Japan PC market, the statistics showed. Another Taiwanese PC maker, Acer Inc. (??), saw its PC shipments increase 5.2 percent to 282,000 units last year, with its ranking rising one spot to ninth. For the whole of 2014, Japan's PC shipments totaled 15.39 million units, down 1.5 percent from the previous year. The top five vendors in terms of market share remained NEC Lenovo (26.3 percent), Fujitsu Ltd. (18.8 percent), Toshiba Corp. (12.2 percent), Dell Inc. (10.9 percent) and Hewlett-Packard Co.
