Taipei, Feb. 9 (CNA) Shares in Taiwan edged down in thin trading Monday, reflecting a strong wait-and-see sentiment in the market, dealers said. Many investors were less inclined to inject funds into the market with the approach of the Chinese Lunar New Year holiday, which begins Feb. 18, the dealers said. The weighted index on the Taiwan Stock Exchange closed down 34.68 points, or 0.36 percent, at 9,421.50 after moving between 9,413.18 and 9,465.12 on turnover of NT$65.4 billion (US$2.08 billion). Shares of mobile chip designer Mediatek rose 1.88 percent to NT$488 after the Swiss global financial services company UBS upgraded Mediatek stocks to "buy." UBS predicted that Mediatek will take a 46 percent share of China's 4G smartphone market this year, up from 30 percent in 2014. Shares of flat panel maker Innolux Corp. decreased 0.63 percent to NT$15.7. Shares of smartphone maker HTC Corp. plunged by the daily maximum of 7 percent to end at NT$147.5. (By Pan Chi-i and Y.F.
