Malaysia's Anwar hoping for just decision on sodomy charge

Malaysian opposition leader hopes for just decision, but ready to be jailed on sodomy charge

Malaysia's Anwar hoping for just decision on sodomy charge

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia (AP) -- Opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim says he hopes for a just decision when Malaysia's top court rules on his final appeal against a sodomy conviction, but that he's ready to be jailed for the second time in just over a decade.

The Federal Court will announce Tuesday whether it will uphold Anwar's five-year sentence for sodomizing a male aide.

The 67-year-old Anwar says he should be acquitted based on the evidence. However, he said Monday that it would be "a small price I have to pay" if he is sent back to jail.

Anwar was imprisoned for six years after being ousted as deputy prime minister in 1998 on earlier charges of sodomy and abusing his power. He was freed in 2004 after the top court quashed that sodomy conviction.
