Economic affairs minister to visit U.S.

Taipei, Feb. 7 (CNA) Economic Affairs Minister John Deng (???) will leave for the United States on Sunday for a week-long visit. Deng is scheduled to call on U.S. administrative agencies, Congress, trade associations and think tanks and will also give public speeches while in Washington D.C., according to the Ministry of Economic Affairs. Besides discussing bilateral trade issues with the U.S. side, Deng will use the opportunity to express Taiwan's desire to join the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) and take part in the second round of TPP negotiations, the ministry said. The two sides will also exchange views on the date of the next round of talks under the Trade and Investment Framework Agreement, Deng said. (By Huang Chiao-wen and Y.F. Low)
