Taiwan's APEC proposals praised

Clark, Philippines, Feb. 6 (CNA) Taiwan was praised for the proposals it made at an Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) meeting in the Philippines on Friday. Taiwan's delegation made four proposals on the opening day of the First Senior Officials' Meeting in Clark, the most by any participating economy, on boosting the growth of small- and medium-sized enterprises, strengthening responses to natural disasters and increasing food security in the region. Philippine Foreign Affairs Undersecretary Laura del Rosario, who chaired the meeting, praised Taiwan for its contributions at the meeting, which ends Saturday. The 21 economies in the APEC bloc will discuss the proposals in the future, said Chou Tai-chu (???), head of the Department of International Organizations under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, who is heading the 16-member Taiwanese delegation at the two-day meeting. The Second Senior Officials' Meeting is scheduled to be held in May in Boracay. (By Emerson Lam and Scully Hsiao)
