Google launches digital talent project for Taiwanese graduates

Taipei, Feb. 5 (CNA) Google Inc. launched an initiative Thursday to provide tutorial and training resources for Taiwanese graduates as part of a strategy to strengthen its talent base and deepen connections with local enterprise communities. The Digital Mars initiative, Google's largest talent cultivation project across the Asia-Pacific region, is expected to select more than 2,000 Taiwanese graduates from online applicants who will receive free courses offered by Google, including digital marketing and keyword advertising. The U.S. search engine said it will also help match the trainees with about 170 jobs provided by 60 local enterprises across 13 sectors such as consumer electronics, advertising and marketing, gaming, e-commerce and mass communications. Nearly 80 percent of the 170 job openings will offer a monthly wage of between NT$30,000 (US$954) and NT$45,000, higher than the local industry average, according to Google. "Google is optimistic about the potential and competitive advantage of the Taiwanese workforce and will continue to strengthen local young people's abilities through diverse and long-term talent cultivation projects," Google Taiwan Managing Director Chien Lee-feng (???) said at a press briefing on the Digital Mars initiative. The enterprise partners of the initiative include PC maker Asustek Computer Inc. (??), telecom operator Far EasTone Telecommunications Co. (????), automaker Ford Lio Ho Motor (??????) and the Taiwan unit of Japanese e-commerce giant Rakuten Inc. (????). (By Jeffrey Wu)
