TransAsia crash death toll increases to 32

Taipei, Feb. 5 (CNA) The number of fatalities in Wednesday's crash of a TransAsia Airways (????) plane increased to 32 as the search for 11 others on board the flight continued in cold and rainy weather in Taipei Thursday. The body of the latest confirmed victim was found in the cabin retrieved from the Keelung River, which the ATR-72 turboprop plane plunged into some 24 hours earlier. Flight GE235 sent out a mayday shortly after takeoff from Taipei Songshan Aiport before clipping a taxi and the guardrail of an elevated highway with its left wing and crashing into the river, just a few kilometers from the runway. Thirty-two bodies had been found as of late Thursday morning. They include those of pilot Liao Chien-tsung (???), co-pilot Liu Tzu-chung (???)and flight engineer Hung Ping-chung (???). Fifteen of the 58 people on board survivied. Rescue workers continued to look for the 11 others, who they feared may have drifted downstream toward the larger Tamsui River. An investigation has begun into the cause of the crash. (By Sunrise Huang and Jay Chen)
