UNITED NATIONS (AP) -- The United Nations says six Egyptian peacekeepers have died in a car accident in Ivory Coast and three Moroccan peacekeepers died in a separate car crash there last week.
The spokesman for the U.N. secretary-general told reporters Wednesday that the Egyptian peacekeepers' car crashed Tuesday after a blown tire caused it to veer off the road. They had been traveling from Yamoussoukro, the political capital, to Abidjan.
Stephane Dujarric says the crash follows a separate car accident in Ivory Coast that killed three Moroccan peacekeepers on Jan. 27.
He says 92 peacekeepers have been killed in Ivory Coast since the U.N. mission there began in 2004.
