NEW ORLEANS (AP) -- A suspect in the shooting of an Irish police officer has been arrested, but authorities are still searching for a second man.
The New Orleans Police Department says 40-year-old Melvin Galle Jr. was arrested Tuesday in the Jan. 27 shooting of 30-year-old Brian Hanrahan.
Police said Galle befriended Hanrahan and that they walked from the French Quarter to a nearby neighborhood. When the men reached the new location, police say a second man robbed and shot Hanrahan.
Galle is facing armed robbery and attempted second-degree murder charges. It was unknown if he has an attorney.
Police are still working to determine the identity of the second man believed to be the shooter.
