Warmer weather expected in Taiwan through Tuesday

Taipei, Feb. 2 (CNA) The weather in Taiwan will remain mild through Tuesday as a cold air mass weakens, the Central Weather Bureau (?????) said Monday. Daytime maximum temperatures in northern and northeastern Taiwan could rise by up to 2 degrees Celsius to around 20 degrees, while central and southern Taiwan could see highs of 21-25 degrees, forecasters said. Mostly cloudy to sunny skies are expected across the country, with limited showers in eastern Taiwan and mountainous areas of northern Taiwan, it said. The mild weather could last into Tuesday, and increased moisture could bring more rain to eastern Taiwan, according to the bureau. However, a strong cold air mass is expected to approach Taiwan from Wednesday, sending the mercury plummeting, the bureau said. The cold air mass will be at its strongest between Thursday and Friday, driving temperatures down to lows of around 10 degrees in northern Taiwan during that period, the bureau said. Rain is also likely in northern and eastern parts of Taiwan and in mountainous areas of the country, it said. (By Lee Hsin-Yin)
