Kuan Chung-min resigns as head of economic planning agency: paper

Taipei, Jan. 29 (CNA) President Ma Ying-jeou has accepted the resignation of Kuan Chung-ming (???), minister of the National Development Council (NDC), who will return to his teaching job in February, a local newspaper reported Thursday. NDC officials would neither confirm nor deny the report and referred reporters' questions to the Executive Yuan. The Apple Daily said on its website that the Executive Yuan is still considering who to appoint as the new head of the government agency responsible for economic planning. The paper said that Kuan feels frustrated over the lack of progress of a bill that will establish free economic pilot zones in the country.
Kuan, who received his Ph.D degree in economics at the University of California, San Diego, became the chief of the ministerial-level Council for Economic Planning and Development (CEPD) in Feb. 2013 and continued to serve as the minister of its successor agency a year ago. (By Jay Chen)
