Taiwanese among top spenders in Asia Pacific on dining out: poll

Taipei, Jan. 28 (CNA) Taiwanese spend an average NT$5,280 (US$169) per person per month to dine out, which is the fifth highest amount in the Asia-Pacific region, according to a MasterCard survey that was released Wednesday. It found that Taiwanese diners prefer to eat out at food courts, moderately priced restaurants and fast food chains, spending an average NT$5,280 each per month. The poll, conducted between October and November 2014, showed that the average amount spent monthly per person on dining out in Taiwan during that period was NT$300 more than in the same period of the previous year. In the Asia-Pacific region, the average amount spent by each person per month to dine out is NT$3,600, with people in Hong Kong, Singapore, China, Japan and Taiwan being the biggest spenders, the survey found. The other countries surveyed were South Korea, Vietnam, Myanmar, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, India, Bangladesh, Australia, New Zealand and the Philippines. The poll was conducted among 8,235 consumers in 16 countries and territories in the Asia Pacific region to learn more about their dining habits. (By Wu Ching-chun and Elaine Hou)
