KREISCHBERG, Austria (AP) -- American freestyle skier Kyle Smaine won the world championship in halfpipe, while Virginie Faivre of Switzerland successfully defended the women's title on Thursday.
It's the first major title for Smaine, whose best result in a World Cup was 10th. His first-run score of 88.00 points remained unmatched.
Joffrey Pollet-Villard of France won silver with 86.60, and Yannic Lerjen of Switzerland scored 82.40 for the bronze medal.
In the women's event, Faivre finished on 83.30 for her third world title after 2009 and 2013. Cassie Sharpe of Canada and Mirjam Jaeger of Switzerland won silver and bronze, respectively.
The final was interrupted for 10 minutes after Anais Caradeux of France fell and was carried off on a sled with an apparent knee injury.
